Reptile design and produce highly original hand painted tiles and ceramics full of colour, pattern and humour.
We work in our purpose built studio in West Wales, on the border of Carmarthenshire and Pembrokeshire.
Visitors are welcome.
We established Reptile in 1988, in the same year that we married. We are both fine art graduates, only discovering the wonders of ceramics at evening classes with Angus Suttie in Lambeth and then with Don Dewar in Bolt Court – both highly inspirational teachers.
In 1992 we started to produce large tile panels for Waitrose supermarkets for their fish and meat counters. We were also selling tiles and wall plaques through Liberty as well as tile shops and craft galleries throughout Britain. We soon needed more space and relocated from Highgate to our present location.
You can listen to a podcast with Carlo talking about Reptile Tiles with Sarah James of Craft Festival using the link at the bottom of the page.
Reptile specialise in the production of colourful and contemporary tiles for both private and commercial clients and have work located throughout the world. Commissions have included tiles for food halls, swimming pools, restaurants, hotels and hospitals as well as countless bathrooms and kitchens. For examples of these look at our gallery.
We have appeared in numerous books, magazines and television programmes.
We aspire to produce tiles that are innovative whilst remaining rooted in the wonderful and varied history of decorative tile making. Subject matter is varied and includes underwater scenes, animals, birds, plants and landscapes.
We have been painting tiles for many years now – you might think that we would get a bit jaded, but we never do! In fact we think our tiles are getting better every year!
